Bertuzzi out for the year.
I talked about this story the other day. The NHL has meted out punishment of suspension for the rest of the season (which amounts to 17 games minimum) plus the postseason (Vancouver currently sits at the #4 seed in the Western conference). He has to apply for reinstatement for next season, so the suspension in theory could last longer, but somehow I doubt it. The Canucks were also fined $250,000. I think the fine on the team is a good idea and would have discouraged teams from putting thugs on their roster, had the fine itself had any bite to it at all. A good chunk of that amount will come from the salary that Vancouver will not have to pay Bertuzzi. Hardly a deterrent.
