This goes beyond the whole "I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out" joke...
The Colorado Avalanche's Steve Moore suffered a fractured spine in the game yesterday against Vancouver after a cheap shot by Todd Bertuzzi. Didn't see it (don't have ESPN where I am at right now), but this has got to be one of the most horrid transgressions I've heard of within this sport. The way they described it on the radio this afternoon, Betuzzi jammed Moore's face into the ice after he was down? With a fractured spine, for all we know, Bertuzzi could have accidentally killed the man without even knowing it.
There is no way come hell or high water this guy should ever play hockey again. Anywhere. The potential offseason lockout may take that out of Gary Bettman's hands (he's still the commish of the NHL, no?), but there's no way the union can defend this SOB as I see it. This makes the Bill Romanowski thing in Raiders training camp this off season look like a love tap by comparison.
